As our lives become busier and to-do lists expand, the bathroom has evolved from a purely functional room into a vital sanctuary for self-care.

We now look to these spaces to set a positive morning tone, provide a midday recharge, or serve as a calming evening retreat.

Ultimately, the modern bathroom is no longer just utilitarian; it is a dedicated zone for wellness and relaxation.

Introducing SunShower to our BK11 projects…

What Is A SunShower?

SunShower is a wellness product that is installed into your showering space to offer low-dose Ultra-Violet (UV) Light Therapy and Infra-Red (IR) Recovery into your daily washing routine.

What Are The Benefits Of SunShower?

SunShower has been proven to have a positive impact on energy levels. Aiding increased mobility by increasing the natural production of vitamin D in the body and skin.

But how?

We have put together some facts to help you understand the benefits of UV and Infra-Red therapy, and why we love to use SunShower in our BK11 projects.

How will Infra-Red benefit me?

Infra-Red therapy offers an array of benefits for your body, including relaxing muscles and tension, better blood circulation and relieving pain.

Here’s a further delve into what Infra-Red may add to your showering experience:

  • Improved Blood Circulation- Infra-red emits heat, helping blood circulation.
  • Pain Relief – Circulation stimulates the supply of oxygen and helps the disposal of waste products, reducing muscle tension.
  • Improved Mobility – This in turn, leads to less muscle and joint pain, faster muscle recovery after exercise, reduced back and neck pain with positive effects on rheumatism.
  • Pleasant Heat for the Body – Because the body absorbs infrared, you’ll enjoy pleasant heat aiding muscles and joints to relax and recover.
  • Skin cleanser – The heat of infrared makes pores dilate. This ensures better and more effective deep cleansing of the skin. Resulting in radiant skin.
  • Cortisol Reduction: Infrared therapy has been shown to lower cortisol (the stress hormone) while boosting endorphins, helping a better night’s sleep.

How will UV Light Therapy benefit me?

One thing to clarify: SunShower is NOT a sunbed for your shower.

It removes the health risks associated with UV by offering a low-dose UV light, with health benefits such as:

  • UVB light therapy for chronic skin conditions – Light therapy using low-dose UVB light can have a positive effect on skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, sun allergy and vitiligo.
  • Improving the immune system – Vitamin D plays a central role in regulating the immune system, because it helps to activate and suppress immune cells. By preventing vitamin D deficiency, you’ll arm yourself against respiratory tract infections such as flu and colds.
  • Stronger bones and teeth – Vitamin D improves the absorption of calcium and phosphorus and ensures stronger bones and teeth.
  • Prepare your skin for sun – A structural low dose of UVB light ensures the production of pigment and makes the skin thicker. By preparing the skin in this way you’ll protect yourself from the summer sun.
  • Improved mood – UV light has a positive effect on the production of the happiness hormone, endorphin. This reduces stress leaving you feeling fitter with more vitality. It has also shown that sunlight provides a better day and night rhythm.
  • Development and muscle maintenance – Vitamin D improves the movement of muscle fibres, which in turn causes muscle contraction. The result: improved muscle strength, fewer injuries, better athletic performance and less risk of falls for the elderly.

What is Infra-Red and Ultraviolet Light?

You may have heard of Infra-Red Saunas, or showers and baths that offer Light Therapy; well, all the positive aspects of these are integrated into the SunShower.

Here’s a snapshot of what Infra-Red and UV mean in reference to SunShower:

  • Infra-Red (IR) – The infrared of SunShower consists of two wavelengths: the short wave (IRA) and the medium wave (IRB). IRA penetrates deep into the body causing it to warm up. This improves blood circulation allowing waste products to be removed more easily helping both muscle tension and joint pain to decrease. IRB is almost completely absorbed by the upper layers of the skin, creating a warm feeling.
  • Ultraviolet (UV) – SunShower UV light consists of two wavelengths, UVA and UVB. SunShower emits 80% UVB light and 20% UVA light. UVB light plays a major role in the production of vitamin D in the skin. While UVA penetrates deeper into the skin and converts the pigment into a healthy, summery complexion.
  • Low Dose – Safety comes first at SunShower . That’s why they work closely with medical specialists and have been researching the effects of UV light since 2007. SunShower delivers a smart, safe dose of UV light during your daily shower ritual.

How Does SunShower Work?

As SunShower is installed directly into your shower space, the best time to use it is whilst you enjoy your shower!

It is recommended to use three times a week, for ten minutes – which the SunShower itself helps you count down whilst you are using it.

What is the price of a SunShower?

With SunShower, the specification, size and finish as well as the installation method can all affect the overall investment required to implement the product into your new bathroom.

As Designers, we work with our clients to understand the areas of their body that they want to target which helps us determine the size, the overall colour scheme of their bathroom to advise on the best finish, and also the way they want to use SunShower to decide if it should include both Infra-Red and UV, or the simpler Infra-Red only model.

Our chosen installation method is always recessed, as it creates the sleekest finish though there are surface mounted options for retro-fitting if required.
