Rugged alligator iridescence
For this family bathroom in Great Bookham, our client wanted a rugged, characterful aesthetic that respected the heritage of their Grade II listed property. By merging two small, separate rooms; a separate WC and a bath, basin and shower room into one, we unlocked the space needed for a comfortable, standalone family bathroom.
The rooms structural complexity required meticulous spatial planning, particularly when navigating the angular, sloped ceilings and exposed beams. We embraced these challenges with a stud wall to create a custom-height shower enclosure with recessed shelves, and bespoke bronze-tinted antique mirrors designed to fit the ceilings unique angles while introducing exceptional visual depth.
Driven by our client’s love for green, we paired Farrow & Ball’s Green Smoke with Ca’Pietra’s Foundry tiles in Alligator Green. These glazed, Victorian-era style brick tiles feature an imperfect, iridescent finish that reflects light dynamically across the room. To complement the alligator green, we paired Ca'Pietra's ivory Stucco concrete-effect tile in the shower to soften the space, completing the rugged foundation with wood effect floor tiles.
Space-saving innovations drove the layout, featuring a back-to-wall semi-freestanding heritage-inspired rolltop bath and a bespoke, in-house crafted basin unit from oak. For the hardware, we paired a striking matt black radiator with living aged brass brassware by Swadling, which will patina beautifully over time. The space is finished with discrete luxuries,
, including a flush plate seamlessly tiled-in with alligator green tiles and layered mood lighting on independent switches, perfect for relaxing evenings.
